Dinos close out 2023 season at nationals

SASKATOON – The Calgary Dinos men's 4x400m relay just missed another medal and finished fourth in the nation to headline the final day of action at the 2023 U SPORTS Championships, hosted by Saskatchewan inside the Saskatoon Field House.

Calgary finished the busy three days in The Prairies with 27 points on the women's side to finish eighth overall in the team standings out of 23 teams. The men tallied 11 points at this year's national championships for 17th place out of 27 teams. Guelph brought home both team titles at this year's meet.

Devon Zuchotzki, Victor Gouttin, Harman Kailey and Kai Spierenburg teamed up to finished the men's 4x400m relay in 3:17.61 – half a second shy of a top-three finish overall in an incredibly tight finish between spots two through four.

Earlier in the day, Zuchotzki and Kailey were joined by Paul Abodunwa and Chetaan Judge in the 4x200m relay that finished eighth overall in 1:30.06.

Rookie Stephanie Okhiria competed at her first national meet. Fresh of a silver medal at conference, the Edmonton native came in 12th at the U SPORTS Championships with a leap of 11.02m on her second approach.

The Dinos thought they added to their medal collection earlier in the day. The women's 4x200m relay squad of Dawn Richardson Wilson, Emma Parnetta, Natasha Gatzke and Kristen Fox won the opening heat with a time of 1:40.95 – a time that stood third and gave them the bronze medal after the finish of the second heat. But – after a lengthy and back-and-forth protest process – Calgary was disqualified by officials.
