CALGARY – Two University of Calgary Dinos alumni will represent Team Canada at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, running July 23 to Aug. 2.

Track and field athlete Sienna MacDonald has been selected to compete in the women's heptathlon and women's long jump. A standout during her U SPORTS career, MacDonald broke her own U SPORTS long jump record in 2026, extending the previous mark of 6.25 metres to 6.36 metres to claim her sixth national gold medal. She also claimed silver in the 60-metre hurdles and bronze in the 60-metre dash at the same championship, having previously lowered the U SPORTS 60-metre hurdles record twice in 2025 – first to 8.09 seconds and then to 7.99 seconds. MacDonald arrives at the Commonwealth Games on the strength of her first international medal, a silver at the 2026 Pan American Championships in Athletics in Colombia.

Dinos alumna Erica Wiebe will also be part of Team Canada, serving as Chef de Mission. A two-time Commonwealth Games champion and 2016 Rio Olympic gold medallist, Wiebe also competed at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. The wrestling great represented the Dinos from 2007-12 and was inducted into the Dinos Hall of Fame in 2024.

The 2026 Commonwealth Games will feature athletes from 74 nations and territories competing across 10 sports and six Para sports.
