Dinos host UBC Saturday at McMahon

CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos football team heads into the home stretch of the 2023 regular season, starting Saturday at home against UBC.

The Dinos and Thunderbirds both enter Saturday's game coming off the annual Thanksgiving bye.

Saturday's game kicks off at 2 p.m. from McMahon Stadium and can be streamed live on Canada West TV.

HEADLINES
  • This is the second meeting between Calgary and UBC this season. The Thunderbirds scored 21 fourth-quarter points to pull away late and claim a 45-15 win in Vancouver back in Week 2 on Sept. 9.
  • UBC's home win earlier this season snapped a nine-game winning streak by Calgary in Vancouver, with this season's loss in the head-to-head series being the first since 2006.
  • The Dinos own a 63-39-2 all-time record against the Thunderbirds, including a 56-32-2 mark in regular-season action.

Calgary Dinos (0-5)
Next week: at Saskatchewan
  • Calgary is looking to get healthy and make a strong push in the final three weeks of the regular season. Quarterback Dom Britton returned to action last time out after missing the previous two games. After starting the season on the injured list, Matthieu Clarke has returned to the backfield for the Dinos and provided a spark his first game back.
  • Speaking of Clarke, the second-year RB had his best performance of his career the last time UBC came to Calgary. Clarke carried the ball 18 times and racked up 203 yards rushing - the first 200-yard rushing performance by a Dino since Mercer Timmis churned out 276 yards on 27 carries in a 46-38 road win over Manitoba back in Week 2 of the 2015 season.
  • The Dinos have found quite the home run threat through the air this season in second-year wideout Gob Deng. The Vancouver product already has career highs in yards (419) and touchdowns (4) on the year through just five games and ranks second in all of U SPORTS in yards/catch (22.1 yards), fourth in TDs and sixth in yards/game (83.8).
  • Up next, the Dinos hit the road for the final time in the regular season, making the return trip to Saskatchewan for a rematch with the Huskies.

UBC Thunderbirds (4-1)
Next week: vs. Regina
  • UBC comes into Calgary carrying a 4-1 record and sitting in a three-way tie at the top of the Canada West standings with three weeks left to go.
  • The Thunderbirds suffered their first loss of the season the last time out, dropping a 34-31 thriller on the road to fellow league-leader Saskatchewan back in Week 5.
  • UBC boasts one of the most explosive offences in the country, averaging 534.0 yards/game to rank second in all of U SPORTS. Quarterback Garrett Rooker averages 311.0 yards passing/game, while wide out Sam Davenport's 92.8 yards receiving/game leads the country coming into the weekend.
  • Following their trip to Calgary, UBC heads home to take on Regina next week before heading to Edmonton for the return contest against Alberta in the final game of the regular season.
