Dinos ride into holidays with 13 straight wins

SASKATOON, SK – For the second night in a row, the No. 2 University of Calgary Dinos men's hockey team used a fifth period of hockey to dispatch the Saskatchewan Huskies.

Team captain Noah King provided the game-winner on Saturday night, pushing the Dinos' win streak to 13 games with a 3-2 win over the Huskies to close out the first semester. Calgary holds a 15-3-0 record, while Saskatchewan slips to 10-4-4 on the year.

The first period was very much a defensive battle with both teams struggling to get shots on net. The period would end with a 0-0 tie, with the Huskies leading shots on goal 9-8.

The energy ramped up in the second period and Saskatchewan found the first goal of the game, with Alec Zawatzky picking up his third of the season, assisted by Jared Dmytriw and Chantz Petruic at the 15:18 mark.

Saskatchewan's defence was tested in the third period, as the Dinos would slip two goals past Jordan Kooy. At 8:48, Calgary's Zach Wytinck would get a power play goal, assisted by Jake Gricius and Jadon Joseph. The Dinos added another special teams goal as Bradley Schoonbaert gave his team the lead, but it wasn't for long as the Huskies' Justin Ball answered back a minute and a half later at 13:32 with the power play goal, pushing the game into overtime.

The game would go into a second overtime, which ended at 1:54 with a goal from King.

Carl Tetachuk continues his impressive run in the Calgary net, finishing the night with 29 saves, while Kooley stopped 18 shots at the other end.

The Dinos are next in action on Jan. 2 when they face the Ukrainian U25 National Team, raising money for refugees and Ukrainian communities torn apart by war. Tickets are available at godinos.com/ukraine.
