Win streak hits 12 in double-OT comeback win

SASKATOON – With strong offensive showings from both the Saskatchewan Huskies and the Calgary Dinos, Friday's game at Merlis Belsher Place would head into double overtime, with the Dinos nabbing the OT goal and taking the night 5-4 over the Huskies.

The loss keeps Saskatchewan at fourth place in the Canada West standings and a 10-4-3 record, while the no. 2 ranked Dinos maintain first place with a 14-3-0 record, winning their 12th in a row.

The Huskies opened the upset bid Friday with an early power play goal as Jaxan Kaluski nabbed his tenth goal of the season. Mark Runsey and Chantz Petruic would grab the assist on the goal. The rest of the period belonged to the Dinos, however, as Jaeger White would slip one past Saskatchewan's goaltender Roddy Ross at 16:12, followed closely by Bradley Schoonbaert at 18:07. The period would end with the Dinos leading 2-1.

The second period saw Huskies bounce back in a big way, grabbing three goals to put the Dogs up 4-2. Mark Rumsey would grab the first of the period at 4:18 with the assists from Jaxan Kaluski and Liam Keeler. Midway through the period would see Jared Dmytriw with the short-handed goal, scoring his twelfth of the season, followed by Connor Hobbs' power play goal at 17:19.

The Huskies had a comfortable 4-2 lead to start the third period but the Dinos would not let off the gas. With just over five minutes remaining in regulation, Calgary's Arjun Antwal scored his first goal of the season unassisted to bring the game within one. Less than a minute later at 15:20, Riley Stotts would add add the equalizer and tie the game at 4-4.

Overtime would see both teams in the hunt for the net, but with no real scoring opportunities, the game would move into a second overtime period. Calgary would seal the deal at 1:10 into the period with Jake Gricius' unassisted goal to take the 5-4 win.

In net for the Huskies tonight was Roddy Ross, who saved 22 of 27 for the Dogs but was unable to keep the Dinos out during double overtime. Calgary's Carl Tetachuk was in net for the entire game for the Dinos, stopping 25 of 29 shots in the win for the Dinos.

Game two of the series will run Saturday at 4:00 p.m. MT at Merlis Belsher Place.
