Dinos, Huskies face off this weekend

CALGARY – The University of Calgary women's hockey team (6-9-1) will host the University of Saskatchewan Huskies (9-5-2) in their last games of the year before the exam break.

Both games will take place at Father David Bauer Arena. Friday's puck drop is set for 7 p.m., while Saturday's is at 6 p.m.

FIVE THINGS TO KNOW

1. WILL 60 MINUTES BE ENOUGH?
– The Dinos and Huskies have already met earlier this season, with each team claiming a win. Notably, both games went into overtime, one even stretching into double OT, proving that these teams are a strong matchup and that three frames might not be enough to settle the score this weekend.

2. LEADING BY EXAMPLE – Calgary's veteran forward Elizabeth Lang is currently ranked third in Canada West for points, collecting 15 from seven goals and eight assists. She's not only well on track to top the number of points she notched last season (16), but she's making the push to top her career-high of 22 points from the 2019-2020 season.

3. GOALIE HEAD-TO-HEAD – Huskies netminder Colby Wilson is ranked second in Canada West with a goals-against-average of 1.17. She has played five games so far this season, making 153 saves and has a .962 save percentage. On the other hand, Calgary's primary puck-stopper Gabriella Durante has made the most saves out of all the goalies in U SPORTS, notching 395 – an impressive 66 more than the next highest. Durante has played in 15 games so far and has a save percentage of .921.

4. HUSKIE TO WATCH – Okotoks native and veteran forward Kennedy Brown currently leads her team in points, collecting nine from six goals and three assists. Two of those goals were scored in her team's last game against the Manitoba Bisons. Brown has already equalled her career season high in points, so she will be eager to top it before the exam season break.

5. COACHES CORNER – "We are looking forward to the weekend and continuing to further our game. At this time of the season, teams are looking to finish off the first half with positive momentum, and that's our goal. The details of our game continue to improve, so this is another opportunity to build on those. U of S was a great series early on for us. They competed hard and are a good team. It'll be another weekend of hard-fought hockey." – Dinos head coach Carla MacLeod
