Provincial rivals face-off in home-and-home set

CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos women's hockey team (5-8-1) and the Alberta Pandas (9-4-1) will play a home-and-home series this weekend.

Friday's action will take place in Edmonton at the Clare Drake Arena and Saturday in Calgary at the Father David Bauer Arena. Puck Drop will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday and 6 p.m. on Saturday.

Additionally, fans can receive a discounted ticket to the Dinos home game this weekend while helping a good cause. Bring a non-perishable food item for a food bank run by the university's student union and see this year's Battle of Alberta for a discounted rate price.

FIVE THINGS TO KNOW

1. LAST WEEKEND
– The Dinos are coming out of a weekend split against Trinity Western, leaving them in seventh place in the conference. Four Dinos players found the back of the net over the past two games. Meanwhile, the Pandas dropped two close games at UBC over the weekend, but still sit in third in Canada West.

2. RACKING UP THE POINTS – The Dinos' two top scorers, Elizabeth Lang and Alli Borrow continue to rack up the points as they sit in fourth and seventh place for goals in the Canada West standings. Lang has seven goals and 12 points at the midway point of the season and Borrow has six goals and 10 points. The Pandas Payton Laumbach and Madison Willan also sit in the Canada West top-10 goal scorers, sitting in eighth and 10th place, respectively. Laumbach has scored six times this season and has nine points while Willan has five goals and 12 points overall.

3. NETMINDERS – Stepping up this past weekend, Amelia Awad took to the ice in net for the Dinos and secured her first Canada West win while making 22 saves. She now holds a 0.933 save percentage and a 1.75 goals-against average across two appearances. Durante continues to carry a heavy workload for the Dinos and has a .920 save percentage and a 2.46 goals-against average in 13 games.  Three of Durante's four wins have come by shutout.

4. RENEWING THE RIVALRY – This will be the first time the Dinos and Pandas face off in the regular 2022-2023 season. The two teams faced off three times during the regular season last year, with Alberta claiming all three close contests. Calgary did travel to Edmonton for a preseason game earlier this year, with the Dinos claiming a 3-1 win back in September.

5. QUOTABLE – "It's about growing and getting better. Our slogan is earning it every day, so we got to earn it every day. It's a matter of getting back to practice and making sure we're moving down the path. Every team in this league is so good, you don't get any weekends off. It's going to be another hard-fought weekend, but certainly something to look forward to." – Head Coach Carla MacLeod
