Eight straight: Dinos extend win streak with 4-0 win in Langley

LANGLEY, B.C. – The University of Calgary Dinos men's hockey team overcame a strong defensive effort by the Trinity Western Spartans with a 4-0 road win Friday night from the George Preston Arena.

The win is the eighth in a row for the red-hot Dinos, moving to 10-3 just before the midway point of the conference season, while the loss drops TWU to 1-11.

Despite dominating the opening period, the Dinos went into the locker room after 20 minutes with the game still scoreless thanks in part due to a stingy Spartan defence and strong work in net by Raphael Audet, who finished the game with an impressive 53 saves on the night.

That defensive trend continued until the 13:45 mark of the second period, when Calgary earned a power play and took full advantage. Sean Strange wristed one on target from the top of the zone where teammate Max Patterson was posting up, getting his stick on the shot for the redirected goal to make it 1-0.

Calgary's offence would continue to lean on a tired Spartan D when Riley Stotts made it 2-0 early in the third. Again on a power play, the Dinos moved the puck around the zone nicely when Stotts hammered home a beautiful cross-ice pass from Jaeger White.

Just a few moments later, the Dinos once again found themselves with a man advantage and once again made the most of the situation. White controlled the puck in the corner and again made a perfect pass to a wide open Zach Wytinck, who one-timed his first shot of the game into the back of the net.

Calgary added one more in the game's waning moments when Bradley Schoonbaert tapped home a rebound for his third goal in as many games to close the scoring at 4-0 in the weekend opener.

Dinos keeper Carl Tetachuk saved all 11 shots he faced on the night to improve his record to 8-2 on the year.

Saturday's rematch is set for a 3:15 MT puck drop, once again from the George Preston Arena.
