CALGARY – For the second straight weekend, the University of Calgary Dinos men's hockey team will take on Cougars – this time going up against the University of Regina Cougars in a pair of home contests, starting Friday.
Both games will be hosted by the Dinos at Father David Bauer Arena, with the puck dropping at 7 p.m. on Friday and 6 p.m. Saturday.
FIVE THINGS TO KNOW
SEASON THUS FAR – The Dinos are currently 3-3-0 in their season, while the Cougars are at 1-3-0. Calgary is coming off an OT win against their crosstown rivals, Mount Royal, while Regina is currently on a three-game losing streak.
SOPHOMORE STANDOUTS – Calgary second-year forwards
Jake Gricius and
Riley Stotts are tied as the team's points leaders, with each having notched six points in the season, thus far. Gricius, taking the offensive role, has five goals and one assist while Stotts, taking the playmaker role, has six assists.
COUGAR TO WATCH – Regina forward Matt Culling has notched seven points in just four games, coming from four goals and three assists, making it an impressive start of the season for the rookie.
STRANGER THINGS –
Sean Strange scored the double-overtime game-winning goal last Saturday against Mount Royal. The second-year defenceman has already eclipsed his goal total from his rookie season and has three points through six games, after recording six points in 2021-22.
HISTORY FAVOURS THE DINOS – In the last 10 matchups against Regina, Calgary has taken home nine of them, while Regina claimed the last head-to-head battle, 4-0, last season. Going back even further, the Dinos have claimed 30 of the last 34 games against the Cougars. The last time the two teams met in Calgary was a weekend sweep by the Dinos back in November 2019.
