Playoff spots up for grabs as Dinos close regular season at home

CALGARY - The University of Calgary Dinos women's soccer team will close out the 2022 regular season with a pair of home games this weekend, starting Friday.

The action starts Friday as the Dinos take on the UBC Okanogan Heat, with kickoff set for 4 p.m.

Both games will take place at Dinosaur Field.

FIVE THINGS TO KNOW

1. Last Game – The Dinos opened the 2022 season on the road against both of this weekend's opponents. Calgary started things with a 5-0 win over TRU before claiming a 2-0 victory over the Heat. Seven different players scored those seven goals in the season-opening wins.

2. Records – Going into the weekend, the Dinos are sitting in third place in the Canada West Pacific standings with a 6-4-2 record. The Heat now sit seventh in the division at a 3-6-3 record, while the TRU WolfPack are just one spot behind Calgary at 5-5-2.

3. Top ScorersRachel Barlow owns the top spot on the Dinos' scoring list this season with a total of five goals. The forward has been on the field for a total of 1,034 minutes this season, also amassing an impressive nine assists on the year – by far tops in the nation this season. Leading for the Heat, Amanda White has scored four goals overall this season with 670 minutes of playing time.

4. Playoff Time – The Canada West Playoffs get underway with the play-in next Saturday, Oct. 22. Calgary currently sits third in the division – its highest possible finish – with 20 points. Thompson Rivers enters the weekend fourth with 17 points, while UNBC and Victoria are well in the hunt at 15 points each. UBCO also is still alive with 12 points heading into Friday's contest. The top-three teams in each division earn a bye into the quarter-finals, Oct. 29.

5. Senior Send Off – Sunday's home finale will mark the final regular-season home game for a pair of Dinos, as Shyanne Hedges and Julia Fox will be recognized at Dinosaur Field.
