Dinos open up semester against local rival

| By:
CALGARY – The latest edition of the crosstown smackdown comes to the Jack Simpson Gym this weekend as the University of Calgary Dinos women's basketball team (3-3) and Mount Royal University Cougars (2-4) battle it out for hometown bragging rights on the hardwood.

Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. Friday, followed by 5 p.m. Saturday.

RIVALRY REIGNITED
The Dinos and Cougars reignite their rivalry this weekend. This will be many athletes' first taste of the rivalry on a young Dinos roster, including the Dinos three leading scorers in Annacy Palmer, Pollyanna Storie, and Amélie Collin. The matchup has favoured the Dinos, as they hold a 14-1 record over the Cougars all-time in Canada West.

BATTLE OF THE THREE-POINT LINE
The Dinos have proven to be one of the best shooting teams from beyond the three-point line. They average 7.2 made threes per game (5th in Canada West) while attempting 27.3 per game (3rd in CW). Meanwhile, the Cougars are among the best of CW at guarding the three-point line, limiting their opponents to shooting 27 percent from behind the arc.

LONG-AWAITED MATCHUP
The battle of Calgary returns after a long hiatus from CW action. This weekend's matchup will be the first in 2022 for both the Dinos and Cougars. Both have been off since Nov. 27.

QUOTABLE
"Clearly this is a challenging period to get back to games after such a dramatic COVID-19 impact to our program and everyone. But, even given the uncertainty of our future and impact to our squad, we are looking forward to playing again." – Calgary head coach Damian Jennings.
