Philpots named First Team All-Canadians

QUEBEC – The University of Calgary Dinos dynamic receiving duo of Jalen Philpot and Tyson Philpot have been named first team All-Canadians at the annual football awards show in Québec City on Thursday evening.

The Canada West Player of the Year, Tyson Philpot scored nine receiving touchdowns, despite playing in a shortened season, to rank seventh in program history for a single season. No receiver in the country found the end zone more than Tyson Philpot, who also placed second in average receiving yards with 124.3 and third in total yards with 746.

Jalen Philpot is a first team All-Canadian for the second consecutive season. He led the country, averaging 133.2 receiving yards per game, finishing with a total of 799 receiving yards and three trips to the end zone.

The Delta, B.C. natives both had spots in the first edition of the CFL Scouting Bureau's rankings.

The 2021 Scotiabank Vanier Cup finalists Western Mustangs and Saskatchewan Huskies lead the way with 12 football all-stars. The Mustangs have the most All-Canadians with seven, including three first teamers, while the Huskies have five, of which four are on the first team.

The top team in Atlantic University Sport football, the StFX X-Men led the conference with three All-Canadians, as guard Che Morales, running back Malcolm Bussey and offensive tackle Gregor MacKellar earned second team offensive team All-Canadian nods. Mount Alison placed a pair of defensive players on the 1st all-star team with half back Daniel Bell and defensive tackle Reece Martin earning honours.

The Dunsmore Cup champion Montréal Carabins and Vanier Cup host Laval Rouge et Or led the RSEQ with with four national all-stars apiece. Laval guard Nicolas Guay and blocker Andy Genois join Montréal's defensive end Philippe Lemieux-Cardinal and Concordia rookie receiver Jaylan Greaves as the Québec conferences first-team All-Canadians.

The Scotiabank Vanier Cup, presented by Levio is Saturday at 1 pm ET / 10 am PT on CBC TV and TVA Sports. Live streaming of the match-up between the Saskatchewan Huskies and Western Mustangs is also available on the CBC's digital platforms (CBC Gem, CBCSports.ca, and the CBC Sports app) and on TVASports.ca with a valid subscription.
