First-round bye on the table as Dinos face ‘Horns

| By:
CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos women's hockey team is coming off a historic weekend which brought out a record setting 10,002 fans to the Saddledome on Thursday evening in the Crowchild Classic.

Despite dropping a double-overtime thriller the following night, the team will look to secure the second spot in the Canada West standings heading into the playoffs next weekend.

The action gets going Friday at Nicholas Sheran Arena with puck drop set for 7 p.m. The two teams will head back to Calgary on Saturday for the second game at 6 p.m. at Father David Bauer Arena.

CROWCHILD CLASSIC
The Crowchild Classic was yet again a success last weekend, showcasing the women's game in the later time slot for the first time. Not only did the game bring out a U SPORTS women's hockey record crowd, but the Dinos came away with a 4-1 victory. Kelsey Roberts was the game's first star, while Brooke Dennett netted a pair of goals.

LOOKING FOR THE BYE
The Dinos currently sit in second place in the Canada West standings. With the Alberta Pandas sitting securely in top spot, the battle for the second first round bye is heating up. Calgary currently sits one point ahead of the Saskatchewan Huskies for second spot, making the final regular season weekend that much more important.

POSTSEASON HOCKEY IN CALGARY
Although a lot is yet to be decided in the placing for the Dinos, for the first time since the 2015-16 season, Calgary will see a women's hockey playoff game. The last time they were seen in the postseason resulted in a disappointing two-game sweep at the hands of the Regina Cougars. Their last playoff win came on Feb. 21, 2015 against the Huskies.
