CALGARY –
Amelia Awad - a fourth year with the University of Calgary Dinos - has been named the 2025-26 Canada West Women's Hockey Goaltender of the Year, the league office announced Thursday with the unveiling of the major award winners.
It was a significant jump from last year to this in net for Awad. One season ago, she was unexpectedly thrust into starting 26 of the 28 games on the year, finishing with a 2.75 goals-against average and a .905 save percentage.
The Halifax native used that experience and made significant strides in earning the starting job this season in a talented room that now features three highly recruited netminders. Awad started this year red hot, allowing just one goal or less in each of the first six games to start the season to help the Dinos shoot up the standings early. In all, she finished the regular season with 16 starts, posting an impressive 12-3-1 record with a 1.87 GAA. She also finished the regular season with a .940 save percentage - third best in the conference and in the top-10 in all of U SPORTS.
"'Meals' was unbelievable for us this season," Calgary head coach
Josh Gosling said. "She showed up in camp with the attitude that her back was against the wall and she flourished. As a staff, we are proud of what she has done; being named the top goalie is a great honor and something she should be very proud of. She proved a lot this season.
"She had one goal coming into camp and did the work. It is great to see focus and details pay off. I hope she enjoys this recognition and uses it as fuel for next season."
This marks the first time a Dinos' player has been named the Canada West Goaltender of the Year in the award's five-year history.
