Cougars up first as curtain rises on 2019-20

| By:
CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos women's hockey team look to start the season strong as they get set to open the 2019-20 Canada West campaign at home this weekend against the University of Regina Cougars at Father David Bauer Arena.

The home opener will take place on Friday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. followed up by the rematch on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 3 p.m.

ON THE UP-AND-UP
After a forgettable campaign a year ago, the Dinos showed some scoring touch and found their winning ways in the preseason, picking up solid wins over Manitoba and Mount Royal and adding a 7-1 drubbing of SAIT. Those results should provide confidence for the squad as they look to improve on a 5-20-3 campaign in 2018-19.

THE NEW KIDS
Calgary will have plenty of fresh faces on the ice this season, with the 2019 recruitment class containing seven players. The list includes Calgary natives Gabriella Durante, Emily Hill, and Jordyn Burgar. Hill and Burgar are ACAC transfers from Olds and Red Deer Colleges, respectively. Joining the hometown residents will be Rebecca Clarke, Trechelle Bunn, Madeline Stanley, and Kate Wagner.

ROBERTS' BIG SUMMER
Starting goaltender Kelsey Roberts has been nothing short of a superstar during her Canada West career, including posting a 2.06 goals-against average and .935 save percentage in 2018. Roberts' work has not gone unnoticed by scouts across the country as she was selected to Canada's National Women's Development Team in the off-season.
