CALGARY – Riding high on an incredible 13-game winning streak, the University of Calgary Dinos women's basketball team will look to close out the regular season on a high note, and to keep that momentum rolling into the post season as they host the Thompson Rivers WolfPack.
Both games will be held at the Jack Simpson Gymnasium with a 6 p.m. tip-off Friday, followed by a 5 p.m. start Saturday night.
LEADING BY EXAMPLE
Fourth-year G/F
Erin McIntosh continues to be a model of consistency for the Dinos, leading their offensive attack on a nightly basis. During last weekend's two games against the Fraser Valley Cascades, she averaged 18 points and 7.5 rebounds. This strong performance earned her the Dinos Female Athlete of the Week honours. One of the most impressive aspects of McIntosh's season is her efficiency, as she leads the team in both field goal percentage (0.463) and three-point percentage (0.384).
TOP SEED ASPIRATIONS
The Dinos have not lost since the beginning of November, which has helped propel them second place in terms of both overall record and RPI. Due to the manner in which the standings are determined, Calgary has also clinched a first-round bye, and will therefore host the quarter-final round at the Jack Simpson Gymnasium. However, seeding is still yet to be determined, and the Dinos can still finish as high as first or as low as fourth. With current first place Saskatchewan taking on the third place Regina this weekend, a weekend sweep of the WolfPack would assure the Dinos a top two seed.
ONE WEEK AT A TIME
Dinos Head Coach
Damian Jennings, on how he has kept the team focused on playing the WolfPack this weekend, instead of looking ahead to the post-season:
"Our players are very aware of the league standings, the Top 10, the rules of who moves on from conference play etc. This is healthy dialogue, and has you fighting for something that binds a team together. That said, it will never supersede our own self-critique, or focus on simply out-performing the opponent of today."
