Dinos look to rivalry to spark offence

CALGARY – After another sweep two weeks ago, the University of Calgary Dinos will look to use a bye week to refuel themselves for a tilt against their Crowchild rival Mount Royal in a home-and-home split starting Friday evening at Father David Bauer Arena.

THE LAMP NEEDS TO BE LIT
Scoring has been the Dinos' biggest challenge so far this year, with only four goals through eight league games. Over the past four games, they have been held. Freshman Elizabeth Lang has netted three of the four goals for her squad. If the Dinos want to pick up their first win of the season, they're going to need to see some production from someone not named Elizabeth Lang or Sara Craven.

CROWCHILD CLASSIC ROUND ONE
This is the first of four meetings of the year between the Dinos and Cougars, a series which will culminate at the Scotiabank Saddledome in late January. The two squads did meet thrice in the preseason, with MRU taking wins in each contest.

ROBERTS STAYS STRONG
Despite the abundance of lopsided scores, a consistent high spot for the Dinos has been the goaltending of Kelsey Roberts. A 2.27 goals-against average is nothing to scoff at, but it is the amount of shots that she has been facing that is the impressive factor of her game. Roberts has faced a league-high shot total and has made 249 stops, a Canada West-ranked second best on the year.

  • Mount Royal's team is full of youth as they have eight freshman on their roster.

COMING UP NEXT
The Dinos will remain close next weekend as they are set to host the Regina Cougars for a two-game series starting on Nov. 16. Mount Royal will head east to take on Saskatchewan on Nov. 16 and 17.
