Host Gee-Gees up first for Dinos in Ottawa

CALGARY – The University of Calgary women's soccer team will look to reset after dropping the Canada West championship game as the Dinos enter the U SPORTS championship hosted by the University of Ottawa. And up first, a stiff test: the Ontario champion, No. 4 nationally-ranked Gee-Gees on their home field.

Kickoff of the national quarter-final is set for 4:30 p.m. MT, with live pay-per-view streaming coverage on USPORTS.live.

BACK TO NATIONALS
It's Calgary's fourth trip to the national tournament after previous excursions in 1998, 2005, and 2015. All three of those events were hosted by Canada West schools, however, and this weekend marks the longest road trip in program history.

It's the second all-time meeting at the national championship between the Dinos and Gee-Gees, with Ottawa taking a 1-0 win, in penalties, in the semifinal round back in 2005 at Foote Field in Edmonton. The Dinos are in search of the second national title in program history on the 20th anniversary of their Cinderella run to the championship in 1998.

TIME FOR A NEW STREAK
Calgary's incredible 15-match win streak was snapped last Saturday night at Trinity Western with the host Spartans' 1-0 win in the conference final. The streak stretched over 56 days, during which the Dinos allowed just five goals in those 15 contests. On the season, in 17 regular season and playoff contests, the Calgary defence has allowed a stingy eight tallies while scoring 37.

QUOTABLE
"Everything is spot on, we're ready to go," said Head Coach Troye Flannery from Ottawa. "There's no pressure on us – we're enjoying the moment, and we're going to keep on playing Dinos soccer and go after it. Ottawa is a good team, they're well-coached, but they're at home – we're going to look to take any pressure off of us and put it back on them."
