CALGARY – After extending their winning streak to eight games with a sweep of the Regina Cougars last weekend, the University of Calgary Dinos will try and remain hot as they prepare for a home-and-home weekend set against the Alberta Golden Bears starting Friday night in Edmonton.
ON THE EIGHT BALL
The Dinos are currently riding an eight-game winning streak coming into this weekend's matchup. The win streak has put them in second place in Canada West, sitting only three points behind Canada West leading Saskatchewan Huskies. Over the stretch, the Dinos have outscored opponents by an impressive 40-13 margin. The last time the Dinos have had a win streak of this proportion was in the 2013-14 season, which they saw a span of 13 straight wins.
LET THE FLOOD GATES OPEN
The Dinos have exhibited an impressive amount of offence this year, far beyond what has been seen in recent seasons. Calgary currently leads both major offensive categories in Canada West, recording 54 goals and 92 assists across the roster. A big part of the offence is third-year forward
Riley Sheen who leads the conference with 17 points.
BLUE LINE DOMINANCE
It hasn't just been the offence that has been solid this season, the defence has also been clicking in the back. Goals have been hard to come by for the opposition, seeing only 27 in the back of the Calgary net this year. Even when the team is down a man, defence has still prevailed allowing a league-low five power play goals against. Both sides of the rink for the Dinos have been exceptional, helping out their case for top spot in Canada West.
