CALGARY – Fresh off a split with their crosstown rivals, the University of Calgary Dinos will host the University of Regina Cougars, seeking their first weekend sweep of the season.
Both games will be played at the Father David Bauer Arena, beginning Friday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m., followed by the back-half of the series with puck drop scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 17 at 3 p.m.
GOODBYE SCORING SLUMP
Entering last weekend, the Dinos were shutout in four consecutive games. That all changed against Mount Royal, with goals coming in every period en route their first win of the season last Friday. Over the course of the weekend, two Dinos scored their first tally of the season in
Paige Michalenko and
Rachel Paul, followed up by four skaters collecting their first points of the year. First-year standout
Elizabeth Lang added two points over the weekend, including the lone goal in last Saturday's defeat.
GROUND TO COVER
Entering play this weekend, the Dinos are sitting last in Canada West with four points, the only team not in double digits. Despite where they stand, a weekend sweep coupled with Lethbridge and Mount Royal getting swept themselves, would vault the Dinos back into a tie for the final playoff spot. Regina, who is fifth in Canada West, has been shutout in their last three games, and have lost five of their last six overall.
GOALTENDING WOES
Amidst losing five of six games, the goaltending for the visiting Cougars has been a focal point. Goaltenders Morgan Baker and Jane Kish, who have each played in five games this season, have both failed to grab the starting reigns from one another. Out of qualified goalies, Baker and Kish are last in Canada West in goals against average and save percentage.
