CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos men's hockey team, coming off a two-game sweep of the UBC Thunderbirds last weekend, look to continue their solid play this weekend. Next up for the Dinos are the Lethbridge Pronghorns in a home and home series starting Friday at Nicholas Sheran Arena.
Friday's game is set for puck drop at 7 p.m., while Saturday's matchup will return to Calgary and start at 6 p.m.
THE NEW KID
Rookie forward
Bradley Schoonbaert played in his first two games as a Dinos this past weekend, opening a lot of eyes of what he could do for his new squad. Schoonbaert scored twice in his first game and added two more assists for a four-point debut. He would put home another goal the next day in another solid two-point performance. In only two games, Schoonbaert sits 12th in the Canada West points standings, and second in rookie scoring, and was named Canada West and U SPORTS male athlete of the week for his efforts.
GOALS, GOALS, AND MORE GOALS
The Dinos have been scoring at a dangerous pace early in the season. They lead Canada West in total goals, picking up 27 on the season, five goals ahead of the next contender. Calgary is also averaging 4.5 goals a game, another Canada West best.
DINOS SWEEP SOARING THUNDERBIRDS
An undefeated UBC team came to Calgary on the heels of a sweep the previous weekend in Saskatchewan. It was obvious that the Dinos were determined to prove themselves against a hot team. Over the weekend the Dinos outscored the Thunderbirds 13-4 on a goaltending duo that owned a 2.00 goals against average going into the matchup.
