Dinos a point away from clinching first place

CALGARY – With only two games left on their schedule, the University of Calgary Dinos have a chance to cap off their most impressive season in program history with the Prairie Division crown.

The Dinos (11-1-0) will visit the Mount Royal Cougars on Friday, Oct. 19 and the Alberta Pandas on Sunday, Oct. 21, needing one point to clinch first place. Calgary last finished first in their division in 2016, when they had a record of 9-1-4.

NATIONAL RECOGNITION
For the first time all season, the Dinos cracked the U SPORTS Top 10 rankings this week. Calgary vaulted all the way into No. 6 and is one of three Canada West teams in the rankings, along with the No. 1 Trinity Western Spartans and the No. 4 UBC Thunderbirds. The national rankings are determined using a fully based on a statistical approach based on the Elo Rating System, originally created as a chess rating system by Arpad Elo (and first adopted by the United States Chess Federation back in 1960), but since modified for many sports.

THE STREAK
The Dinos secured their best record in program history on Saturday with their 10th win of the season and pushed their win streak to 11 with another victory on Sunday. During the streak, Calgary has only surrendered one goal, with goalkeeper Lauren Houghton starting every game for Calgary. Houghton needs one more shutout to set a new Canada West record for single-season shutouts.

PENALTY KICKING IT
Calgary benefitted from three penalty kick opportunities this past weekend and was successful on each attempt. Sienna Prince-McPherson had the team's first chance on Saturday, while Montana Leonard scored on PKs in both matches. The Dinos have scored on all five of their penalty kicks, with Leonard taking a conference-high three attempts this season.
