Huskies in town for home opener

CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos women's hockey team will look to bounce back after a tough opening weekend in Manitoba, as they host the University of Saskatchewan Huskies this weekend at the Father David Bauer Arena for their home opener.

The home opener will take place on Friday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m., followed by a rematch at 6 p.m. on Saturday.

OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN
For the first time in two years, the Dinos will be led a by team captain. Head coach Danielle Goyette unveiled fourth-year defender Paige Michalenko as the new captain, with Chelsea Court, Sara Craven, and Delaney Frey serving as assistants.

Michalenko has missed just one game in her three seasons as a Dino, totalling one goal and 13 assists from the blue line.

"I feel very honoured to be a leader on this team," said Michalenko on being named captain. "We have had a lot girl's step up and as a collective, we are a strong unit."

CHAMPS CAME TO PLAY
Last weekend, the Dinos opened their season against the defending U SPORTS women's hockey champions in the Manitoba Bisons. The Dinos stumbled out of the gate, getting outscored 7-2 in back-to-back to losses, while being outshot 70-40.

BOOMERANG LANG
A bright spot in the losses was rookie forward Elizabeth Lang. Lang scored in both games, while also leading the team in shots on goal with a total of eight. Her nose for the net has continued from her time in the CSSHL, where Lang tallied 28 points in 21 games from the Northern Alberta Xtreme. Goyette describes her as "one of the most skilled players" on the team, who has exceptional vision in the offensive zone.
