Green Cougars up next in battle for playoffs

| By:
CALGARY – Battling for the final playoff spot in Canada West, the University of Calgary Dinos are set to host the University of Regina Cougars for a weekend series, with both teams sitting at 23 points with the Dinos holding the tiebreaker.

"I think the players are in the right frame of mind," said Dinos bench boss Danielle Goyette. "If we bring the speed and traffic, I think it's going to help us."

The Dinos were finally able to bust out of their scoring slump last week, as Cheyann Newman scored the lone goal at the Crowchild Classic to defeat Mount Royal, which was good for their first win of the new year. Despite dropping the Friday affair against Mount Royal, the Dinos are in control of their own fate, as two wins would all but assure a playoff berth.

As usual, the Dinos will count on Kelsey Roberts to be the backbone for the team's push to the playoffs. Roberts has displayed stellar consistency this season, and continued that trend making 47 saves on 48 shots over the weekend, including a 27-save shutout last Thursday.

Up front for the Dinos, Sage Desjardins now stands alone as the team's leading scorer (4G, 2A) after a secondary assistant over the weekend. Delaney Frey, Laine Grace and Rachel Paul sit with five points each.

Regina coming into the weekend has struggled immensely, currently on a nine game losing skid. During that slump, the Cougars have been shutout six times, with their last win coming on Dec. 1 against Saskatchewan. Despite the struggles, the Dinos will have their hands full with the Cougars co-leading scorers, Emma Waldenberger and Jaycee Magwood, each having 6 goals and 5 assists so far this season.
