CALGARY – University of Calgary Dinos receiver
Michael Klukas and defensive lineman
Jack McEwen have signed Canadian Football League contracts with the Calgary Stampeders and Hamilton Tiger-Cats, respectively.
Klukas recently completed his fifth and final season with the Dinos, during which he made 46 catches for 739 yards in eight games. He shared the team lead with seven receiving touchdowns and had four 100-yard games including a season-high 129 yards and two touchdowns in a Sept. 16 contest against Manitoba.
Over five seasons (2013-17) with the Dinos, Klukas had 82 receptions for 1,253 yards. He also saw special-teams action with the Dinos and in 2015 he returned a punt 110 yards for a touchdown against UBC. Klukas is an alumnus of Calgary's St. Mary's High School.
McEwen, 22, played 11 games for the UDinos last season, posting 29.5 tackles, 5.5 quarterback sacks and 8.5 tackles for loss. Overall, he played 44 games for the Dinos over five seasons (2013-17), registering 73 total tackles, 10.5 quarterback sacks, 16 tackles for loss and two forced fumbles. In 2016, the 6-0, 275-pound native of Calgary, Alberta, was named a Canada West All-Star after leading the conference in sacks (4.5). He's the younger brother of former Dinos offensive lineman Sean McEwen, who was the CFL's all-star at centre in 2017 with the Grey Cup Champion Toronto Argonauts.
Also announced by the Tiger-Cats Thursday was the signing of former Dino Braden Schram, who Hamilton selected 13th overall in last year's CFL Draft.
