Dinos face ‘Horns in pivotal weekend matchup

| By:
CALGARY – After a tough sweep at the hands of the first-place University of Manitoba Bisons, the Calgary Dinos women's hockey team is eyeing a bounce back weekend against the sixth-place Lethbridge Pronghorns, who are just a point up on the Dinos.

With the Christmas break on the horizon, the upcoming home-and-home series between these two sides present important playoff implications. With at least a victory this weekend, the Dinos will secure the playoff tiebreaker.

When asked about this weekend, Dinos rearguard Georgina Williams said it is key for her team to finish the first half strong.

"I think it's really important, because we didn't have a great start to the year. Finishing off the first semester [would] be really nice to keep our confidence up going into the next semester."

Despite the two losses last weekend, Dinos forward Delaney Frey believes her team did a lot of things right, which included just having the puck more.

"I think we did very well puck possession wise, we just need to get more pucks to the net. I feel like it was one of our best weekends having puck control in their end, we just need to find ways to take it to the net."

This weekend is the second matchup of the year between Calgary and Lethbridge after they opened the season against each other on Oct. 6-7. The Pronghorns won the first game 1-0 in double overtime, while the Dinos responded with a 1-0 victory of their own the next night, winning in regulation.

Frey says she and her teammates are preparing for a tight series with good goaltending.

"They have a very aggressive goalie so we need to get lots of traffic and get lots of shots on net. Other than that I think we need to fore-check and have our feet moving all weekend, and not sit back."
