CALGARY – The reigning Canada West defensive player of the year, University of Calgary defensive back Robert Woodson, is No. 12 on the Canadian Football League's prospect list for the 2017 draft, the CFL announced Thursday.

Former Dinos receiver Rashaun Simonise, now with the Okanagan Sun junior program, also made the list at No. 7.

Of the 20 players on the list, 14 come from CIS programs, with the Dinos joining Carleton, Laurier, and Laval as the only schools with two players each. The Dinos currently have more active CFL players than any other school in North America.

Woodson, a graduate of Calgary's St. Francis High School, is a fourth-year economics major who had a breakout season in 2015. He was the defensive MVP in Canada West and a first-team All-Canadian after leading the nation in interceptions with five and adding five pass knockdowns. Using his outstanding athleticism, the St. Francis High School grad was the Dinos' top cover man in the secondary and was routinely matched up against the opposition's top receivers – and needing to record just 15.5 tackles on the season, teams were unsuccessful when throwing his direction.

Woodson was one of six Dinos to play at this spring's East-West Bowl.

Simonise, a first team All-Canadian in 2015, recently signed with the Okanagan Sun after attending the Cincinnati Bengals training camp.

The CFL Scouting Bureau, composed of scouts, player personnel directors, and general managers from the league's nine teams, releases its rankings three times each year: September, December, and April. The 2017 CFL Draft will take place in May.
