Westaway takes home gold in 600m on Day 3

| By:
CALGARY - The University of Calgary Dinos track star Jenna Westaway added a CIS gold medal on the final day of the 2016 CIS Track and Field Championships on Saturday, March 12 at the Toronto Track and Field Centre. Westaway led the way for the Dinos all weekend picking up both of the Dinos CIS medals, with today's gold being added on top of her silver medal in the 1000M.

After finishing first overall in qualifying for the 600M, Westaway did not disappoint in the final. Her time of 1:29.61 narrowly beat out UNB's Grace Annear, the AUS female track athlete of the year who was ranked first overall going into the Championships.

With the help of Westaway's two medal performances, the Dinos women's team finished in the top 10 in overall standings, taking ninth place with a total of 34 points.

The women's 4x400 relay team put on a strong performance in today's final, finishing fifth overall. Their time of 3:48.59 was just a quarter of a second away from the third and final podium position which went to the University of Alberta.

Two Dinos competed in the women's 1500M, with Melissa Jones coming in seventh and Sarah MacArthur following in tenth. In her rookie season with the Dinos, Jones had two top 10 finishes at her first CIS National Championships, adding a fifth place performance in yesterday's 3000M.

Also on the women's side, Allison Kendall ranked seventh in triple jump and Jamie Kolodinsky placed 12th in high jump.

The men's 4x200 relay team had a solid race in today's final. They finished fifth overall with a time of 1:29.77, less than a second off the podium.

In the men's triple jump competition, two Dinos making their CIS National Championship debuts ranked in the top 10. Cole Lethebe finished in ninth while rookie Sodienye Nkwonta followed right behind him in tenth.

fThe men's team ranked 19th overall in team standings with a total of four points. The University of Windsor won the overall team standings on the men's side with 93 points, while the University of Toronto took the title on the women's side with a total of 99 points.
