CALGARY - The UBC Thunderbirds continued to dominate with another shut out win against the Calgary Dinos with the score of 7-0 in their second matchup of the double-header at Hawkings field on Sunday.
Even though the Dinos brought out a much stronger battle than yesterday's game with higher intensity and gaining more scoring opportunities, it was still not enough to put one in the net.
UBC opened the score in the 8
th minute of the game from fourth-year Stephanie Norlander.
Into the 24
th minute, the second goal was received from Sophie Jones who executed a beautiful shot at the top of the circle from a penalty corner.
Minutes later, the Thunderbirds put in two more goals, making it a 4-0 lead going into the second half of the game and leaving the Dinos flustered with the results.
In the second half, Dinos veterans
Jessica Britton and
Sabrina Wong stood out amongst the pack where they both showed strong performances in the defensive zone. But again, they just couldn't beat the Thunderbirds to it.
In the 38
th minute UBC captured their fifth goal and two more afterwards. Nicolette Best grabbed the game winner with a quick shot into the left corner of the net and ending the game with a 7-0.
"We played better," said head coach
Peter Taylor. "We controlled the ball more but again we just let ourselves down".
Taylor, though disappointed by the outcome of the game he still had good hopes and ways in which the team can improve for their next match.
"Be stronger in our defense and composure on the ball. We can do it. They've showed they can do it but we need to do it more".
The Dinos season continues the week after the Thanksgiving weekend as they will travel to the coast to take on the Victoria Vikes again in a double-header.
