Dinos shut out by Thunderbirds

| By:
VANCOUVER - The UBC Thunderbirds women's field hockey team hit the seven-goal mark for the second straight day in a shutout of the visiting University of Calgary Dinos on Sunday afternoon at Wright Field.

Fourth-year player Kate Gillis led UBC offensively, scoring four goals for the Thunderbirds, while Natalie Sourisseau, Cassandra Tayler, and Hannah Haughn also found the net.

Calgary did not record a shot on net against the aggressive UBC defence.

Gillis scored the first three goals of the game, with two coming in the first half.  Her third tally, which came in the 49th minute, started a run of three goals in two-and-a-half minutes during the middle of the second half that put the game away for the home team.

Calgary will host the University of Victoria Vikes in a two-game set, starting Saturday, Sept. 21.

Next week, the UBC team will lose six players to the Canadian national team, which will be playing in the Pan American Cup in Mendoza, Argentina. They will not be available for UBC's next games, Sept. 28-29 in Victoria against the Vikes.
