BOX SCORE KELOWNA, B.C. – The Dinos men's volleyball team grabbed its first series sweep of the season Saturday night, defeating the UBC Okanagan Heat in straight sets 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 26-24) Saturday night.
An inability to slow the Dinos at the net frustrated the Heat all game long as the Dinos posted a .230 hitting percentage on the way to 38 kills. Third-year left-side hitter
Greg Mann posted a game-high 13 kills while digging 13 balls en route to victory. Second-year middle
Jovan Jankovic had a game-high six block assists and six kills on an efficient .600 percentage.
The hot hand of Riley McFarland cooled off for UBC Okanagan Saturday as he managed only nine kills himself. Rookie Kristof Schlagintweit tallied 22 assists and one block assist on a big play that helped fuel a late Heat rally. As a team, the Heat posted 9.0 team blocks in the effort to slow the Dinos.
The Heat are now 2-14 and will search for their third of the season next as they hit the road to visit their sister school and the UBC Thunderbirds. The Dinos improve to 4-12 and are back at home at the Jack Simpson Gym to host the Thomson Rivers WolfPack. Their Friday night matchup begins at 6 p.m. in the Jack Simpson Gym.
