Brown caps season with U SPORTS honours

WINDSOR, Ont. – University of Calgary Dinos men's volleyball setter Matthew Brown has been named to the U SPORTS All-Rookie Team. The announcement was made Wednesday night at the All-Canadian Gala.

The six-foot-four rookie from Sunnyside, Man. made an immediate impact in his first season with the Dinos. Brown finished the campaign with 321 assists in Canada West play, while also recording 23 kills, 20 total blocks and two service aces.

Brown also played a key role in Calgary's Canada West play-in series victory over the rival Mount Royal Cougars. The first-year setter delivered a season-high 48 assists in the decisive Game 3 win. Over the three-match series, Brown totalled 112 assists, 12 kills, 18 digs and three blocks.

At the All-Canadian Gala, UBC Thunderbirds setter Mason Greves was named U SPORTS Men's Volleyball Player of the Year. Mount Royal outside hitter Kale Orr earned Rookie of the Year honours, while Waterloo middle blocker Fehin Awobodu received the Dale Iwanoczko Award for Student-Athlete Community Service. UBC head coach Michael Hawkins was named the Fox 40 Coach of the Year.
