BOX SCORE KELOWNA, B.C. – Trailing by 15 points with just over six minutes to play, the ninth-ranked University of Calgary Dinos pulled off a massive comeback to upend the UBC Okanagan Heat 74-71 Friday night to open the second half of the Canada West women's basketball schedule.
The win improves the Dinos to 10-1 on the season, while the Heat drop to 4-8.
Player of the game Sarah Allison, a former Dino who transferred to UBC Okanagan last season from Calgary, led the Heat and the game with 24 points. Roz Huber scored only four points but grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds while fellow senior Madison Kaneda netted 13 points and six assists.
Calgary's leading scorer was
Megan Schaufele with 15 points, including 2-4 from three-point range.
Jessica Franz finished with 12 points and two assists, with 10 of those dozen points coming during the comeback in the final six minutes - including a key hoop and-one with time ticking down to score the winning points. Senior
Tamara Jarrett got into early foul trouble, finishing with six points and six rebounds, while point guard
Kristie Sheils, returning from injury, managed nine points in 16 minutes off the bench.
The Dinos head north to face the Thompson Rivers WolfPack (9-3) Saturday night at the Tournament Capital Centre in Kamloops.
