Halvorsen named to National Team

WINNIPEG – University of Calgary women's volleyball libero Brooke Halvorsen is set to proudly don the Maple Leaf.

On Monday, Volleyball Canada announced the 34 athletes who have been named to the national women's 'A' and 'B' teams following a 49-player training camp in Winnipeg, and the Dinos' Halvorsen made the cut.

A native of Surrey, B.C., Halvorsen joined the Dinos in 2010-11 after two years at Simon Fraser University. In her most recent campaign, Halvorsen picked up 145 digs in 61 sets to lead the team with 2.38 digs per set.

Halvorsen will enter her fifth year of CIS eligibility this fall with the Dinos.

The 34 players selected to the national teams will train together for approximately one month before final decisions on the 'A' and 'B' teams are made. The 'A' squad will then continue training for the Pan Am Cup in Mexico in mid-July.

Fellow Dinos Jordhynn Guy (setter) and Andrea Price (outside hitter) also attended the training camp at the University of Manitoba.

Earlier this month, three Dinos alumni were named to the national men's 'B' team: setters Jay Blankenau and Ciaran McGovern, along with outside hitter Chris Hoag. That team will also compete in the Pan Am Cup, which will take place July 7-15 in the Dominican Republic.
