CALGARY –
Leni Blanke and
Kalyssa Komori of the University of Calgary Dinos women's volleyball team have been named to the Canada West All-Rookie Team, the league office announced Wednesday morning as part of the annual all-league squads.
Blanke earned her way into a starting spot early and never gave it up the rest of the way. One of just eight players to play in all 23 regular-season and postseason contests, the 6-foot-1 middle/outside hitter finished second on this year's Dinos team in both kills (137) and kills-per-set (2.01) while hitting .195 for the year. Blanke also finished the regular season with 101 digs, 37 total blocks and 13 service aces.
Komori - who was teammates with Blanke in both high school (Sir Winston Churchill) and at the club level (Canuck) - was a Day 1 starter as a rookie this season for Calgary. The outside hitter finished her rookie campaign with 110 kills and 1.59 kills/set. Komori also tallied 140 digs, 2.03 digs/set, 13 total blocks and 13 service aces. The rookie also had 306 serve receptions on the year - third most on this year's team.
This marks the fourth consecutive year the Dinos have had at least one Canada West All-Rookie honouree, and marks just the second time in program history a pair of Calgary players were recognized on the list, also taking place in 2015.
