Three Dinos named to junior national team

| By:
OTTAWA - Returning players Tanner Doll and Michael Schmidt along with incoming recruit Mercer Timmis of the University of Calgary Dinos are among the first 35 players named to Canada's junior national team roster, Football Canada announced.

The group will represent Canada at the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) U-19 World Championship set for June 28-July 8 in Austin, Texas.

Doll, a linebacker from St. Albert, Alta., dressed for four games for the Dinos in the 2011 season and represented Alberta at the 2010 Football Canada Cup. Schmidt, a defensive back from Western Canada High School, was part of the southern Alberta team at the 2009 Football Canada Cup.

Timmis, meanwhile, was one of the most sought-after recruits in the nation after racking up more than 3,000 yards in two seasons at Canisius, a prep school in upstate New York. The Burlington, Ont. running back will join the Dinos this fall.

“Over 400 players from across the country participated in the camps, contributing to the popularity and development of this elite program in Canada," said Noel Thorpe, head coach of the junior national team. "We are excited to take the final roster of 45 players to compete at this year's IFAF U-19 World Championship in Austin.”
