BOX SCORE SASKATOON - The No. 9 University of Saskatchewan Huskies swept the visiting University of Calgary Dinos with an 87-73 win Saturday night in Saskatoon's PAC.
With the win Saskatchewan moves to 4-2, while Calgary drops to 2-4. A night earlier, the Huskies won 90-70.
The Huskies led 19-8 at the end of the first quarter. But Calgary found their stride outscoring Saskatchewan 20-7 in the first six minutes of the second frame. After the Huskies tied the game at 28, the Huskies hit three three-point shots in a row to lead 37-30 at halftime.
Calgary and Saskatchewan matched each other point for point to start the third quarter. Midway through the third frame, the Huskies broke away for a four point 48-44 lead. From that point the Huskies took control back of the game to lead 59-49 at the end of the third quarter.
Saskatchewan's lead continued to grow in the fourth outscoring Calgary 28-24 in the frame en route to the win.
Jarred Ogungbemi-Jackson led Calgary with 24 points on the night followed by
Thijin Moses with 16.
Josh Owen-Thomas added another 11 for the Dinos. Moses led the Dinos on the boards with nine rebounds.
Stephon Lamar scored a game-high 27 points for the Huskies, followed by Ben Baker with 17. Andrew Henry added another 11 points for the Huskies, while Matthew Forbes scored 10. Patrick Burns brought down 12 rebounds.
Saskatchewan shot at 43% in the game, while Calgary shot at 42%. The Huskies also won the battle on the boards outrebounding the Dinos 39-38.
The Huskies remain at home to host the UBC Thunderbirds and Victoria Vikes next weekend, while Calgary returns home to host the Mount Royal Cougars and UNBC Timberwolves.
