CALGARY – The Calgary Dinos got a measure of revenge over the Manitoba Bisons for their 2010-11 playoff loss Friday night, riding a 17-save Amanda Tapp shutout to a 2-0 victory at Father David Bauer Arena.

The Dinos move to 9-2-0 with the win, and are now the sole leader atop Canada West standings with 18 points. Manitoba moves to 5-4-2 with the loss and ends their three-game win streak.

A Maggie Litchfield-Meed breakaway halfway through the first period had the Bisons poised strike first in the game, but a beautiful save by Tapp stonewalled Litchfield-Meed's efforts and kept the zeros on the clock.

The first goal for the Dinos came at 13:27 of the first. Sinead Tracey snatched up a Hayley Wickenheiser rebound and lit the lamp for the fourth time this season, with defenseman Stephanie Zvonkovic also assisted on the goal.

Iya Gavrilova added to the Dinos' tally with a power play goal coming late in the first period. The puck found the bottom left corner of the net escaping the reach of third-year Bison goalie Tara Lacquette. The goal was Gavrilova's eleventh of the season, she was assisted by Wickenheiser.

Neither team could manage to find the back of the net in the second period of play. The Bison almost hit the scoreboard when a Lesley St. Godard slap shot from the blue line was redirected just over the crossbar. The Dinos had some good power play scoring opportunities late in the period, their closest chance coming on a Gavrilova redirect that sailed just wide. Shots on goal were even for both squads at seven apiece.

The third period also proved to be a scoreless affair. A two-on-one by the Bisons looked to be a promising opportunity for Manitoba to hit the scoreboard. Brenley Anderson tried to go high on Tapp, but the Calgary netminder read the play perfectly and shut down the attack. Later, the Dinos caught a lucky break on a Michelle Pawluk shot that managed to go through Tapp' five-hole but ended up trickling just wide. Shots on goal were 8- 5 in favor of Calgary in the third.

Tapp picks up her eighth win of the season, fanning away all 17 pucks she faced this evening. Bisons goalie Tara Lacquette stopped 22 of the 24 pucks she faced.

The Dinos outshot Manitoba 24-17 in the game and were 1-for-5 on the power play, while the Bisons went 0 for 4 with the man advantage.

These two squads will meet up again tomorrow in the Dinos' final conference game of 2011. Puck drops at 7 p.m. MT at Father David Bauer Arena.
