BOX SCORE

Calgary improves to 4-0 on the season with the victory, while UBC Okanagan returns home following its first-ever Canada West road trip with an 0-2 record.

Led by an impressive effort by fifth-year guard Megan Lang, the Dinos took it to the Heat in the opening quarter, outscoring the visitors by 18 points. UBCO fought back to make the rest of the game much tighter, however, holding the Dinos to just 15 points in the second quarter and keeping it within 10 points in the final 30 minutes.

“I thought for the first time all season we came out hard and started well tonight,” said Dinos head coach Shawnee Harle. “We had a chance to play everyone again tonight, and we still have two kids playing out of position because of injuries so we don't always have our perfect lineup on the floor. But you have to give UBCO a lot of credit – they could have easily thrown in the towel after the first quarter, but I thought they battled their butts off for the entire 40 minutes.”

Lang had a game-high 17 points in the win for the Dinos, with 11 of those coming in the first half. She was joined by Jenna Kaye and Tamara Jarrett in double digits with 15 and 14, respectively. Calgary rolled 10 players on the floor for the whole night, with nobody playing more than Jarrett's 28 minutes and no one less than 10.

The Dinos shot an impressive 53.3 per cent from three-point range on a night where both teams shot better from the perimeter than from the field as a whole. All five of Lang's field goals were from beyond the arc, while Kaye was an impressive 7-for-12.

The Heat got a solid performance off the bench from Emily Kanester, who put up 15 points in 27 minutes – though she did turn the ball over 10 times. Ashley Briker added a dozen and Roslyn Huber pitched in with 10 points for the Heat.

“There aren't very many easy games in Canada West, and I just love the battle that (UBCO) put up tonight,” said Harle. “That's going to help prepare us for next week, and that's what we need.”

The Dinos face their toughest test of the young season next weekend when they head to Regina to face the No. 1-ranked Cougars for a two-game series. The Heat heads to the B.C. Lower Mainland next weekend for a two-game set with the Fraser Valley Cascades.
