Swan song for Urness, Boyce vs. Pronghorns

| By:
CALGARY – With five years of university experience under their belts, both Katie Urness and Danielle Boyce will hang up their Dinos sweaters this weekend after the final games of the season against the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns..

As far as the post-season is concerned, these games have no meaning. The top four in Canada West have been decided: Alberta will play Regina while Manitoba faces Saskatchewan. For the Dinos this weekend is a chance to finish in the fifth, rather than sixth, spot in Canada West.

Last month was the last time these teams met in a similar home-and-home series. The Dinos swept that series after a convincing 3-1 victory at the Olympic Oval before fighting for a 3-2 shootout win in Lethbridge.

Currently in the standings the Dinos have a two point lead over the 'Horns, with 14 and 12 points respectively. Both teams will be looking for a sweep this weekend as that would pull them past UBC for the fifth spot.

Before Saturday's game in Calgary the retiring members of the Dinos will be honored for their contributions to the team.

Forward Danielle Boyce has been an offensive force for the Dinos this season, leading the team in assists and ranking second in overall points entering the final weekend of the season. Boyce began her University career in CIS with Mount Allison in 2005-06 where she immediately made a splash, scoring seven goals and eight assists over the course of 21 games. The following season Boyce moved to Calgary and joined the Dinos where she was one of the team's most consistent players in points for the next three seasons.

Katie Urness leaves the Dinos with her name firmly entrenched in the record books. Even though her first, and only, CIS season this year was marred with an early injury and a slow start she left her mark on the ACAC in a serious way. Urness' performance in the 2008-2009 season earned her the ACAC record for most wins in a season, best GAA in a season, most shutouts in a season. On top of that Urness holds the record for best save percentage for the prior season as well as the most ever career shutouts for an ACAC goalie.

Both players were a part of the 2008 team that drove to the ACAC championships and the 2009 team that won that provincial title.

The Dinos will open the weekend on Friday, Feb. 19, at Nicholas Sheran Arena in Lethbridge with the first faceoff at 7 p.m.. The final game of the season is a Saturday matinee the following day at Father David Bauer Arena in Calgary with a 3 p.m. puck-drop.
