Volleyballers head to Saskatoon

CALGARY – The Calgary Dinos head to Saskatoon this weekend for the first regular season road trip of the season when they face the Saskatchewan Huskies.

The Dinos will hit Saskatoon Friday and Saturday. Game times for the women are 5 p.m. MST each night, while the men will play at 7 p.m. All four games will be at the PAC and will also be webcast at http://www.educationcdn.com/schools/huskies/.

Women's Matchup
After two straight three set losses to the Brandon Bobcats, the Huskies are looking to get back on track against the Dinos.

Calgary enters the weekend after splitting games against the Winnipeg Wesmen. The Dinos lost in five sets and then won in four a night later. The Huskies opened the season with two 3-0 losses to the Bobcats.

Melanie Miazga, Maura Hayes, and Lindsey Doland led the charge for the Dinos combining for 63 of the team's 113 kills on the weekend. Sarah Lacny was tough on the serve with four aces. Miazga and Doland also added two each. Brooke Halvorsen and Laura Wilson played well defensively with 35 and 24 digs respectively.

For the Huskies outside hitters Candace Hueser and Katie Graves finished the weekend with 21 and 14 kills respectively. Quinn Schulzke helped the two with 40 assists in the two matches. In her first season at the libero position, Haley Manson played strong defensively with 26 digs. Graves also added 17 for the Huskies.

The Huskies haven't defeated Calgary since a 3-1 win in 2002.

Men's Matchup
Welcoming the reigning CIS champion Dinos won't be an easy task for the Huskies.

The No. 5 ranked Dinos enter the weekend a perfect 2-0 after two straight wins over the Winnipeg Wesmen last weekend. The Huskies opened with losses to the Brandon Bobcats.

Curts James, Graham Vigrass, and Allen Meek all lead the attack charge for the Huskies. Vigrass opened the season with 28 kills in the two games, followed by James with 20 and Meek with 19. Vigrass also has 12 assisted blocks on the season.

For the Huskies, 2009-10 CIS All-Rookie Matthew Busse opened the season with 28 kills over the two matches. Also joining in the attack were Bryan Fraser (15 kills), Jeffrey Grant (12 kills) and Geoffrey Zerr (10 kills).

The Huskies have not defeated the Dinos since two 3-1 wins in the 2006-07 season.
