Huskies sweep Dinos

SASKATOON – For the second straight night, the No. 8-ranked University of Saskatchewan Huskies defeated the University of Calgary Dinos 5-2 in Saskatoon's Rutherford Rink.

The win keeps the Huskies on pace near the top of the standings with a Canada West second place 6-1-1 record. The Dinos drop to 1-7 with the loss.  A night earlier, the Huskies beat the Dinos also 5-2. The Huskies have now won all four regular season meetings against Calgary.

Three Huskies had multiple point nights in the win. Julie Paetsch scored two goals for the Huskies, while Sara White and Kelsey Tulloch each had a goal and two helpers.

White opened the scoring in the game on the power play at 4:43 in the first period. The Huskies were on the man advantage when Dino Melissa Zubick was in the box for cross checking.  Former Dino Shelby Davey gave the Huskies a two goal lead at 18:42 in the same frame. Calgary jumped on the board just a minute later to cut the lead to 2-1 to end the first period.

Saskatchewan opened the scoring in the second when Paetsch found the net on her first of the game just 25 seconds in to put the Huskies up 3-1. The goal came on a backhand shot. Elana Lovell, who had both goals in Friday's loss,  scored at 19:39 to make it 3-2.

Tulloch and Paetsch added goals in the third period. Tulloch's game on a power play at 18:05 on a scrum in front of the net and Paetsch's was an empty netter at 19:59.

Former Dinos' goalie Vanessa Frederick made 22 saves in the win, while Katie Urness stopped 20 for Calgary.

The Huskies will hit the road to face the UBC Thunderbirds, while Calgary will take a week of rest before heading back to Saskatchewan this time to take on the University of Regina Cougars.
