Struggles continue for Dinos

| By:
SASKATOON – For the third time this season the No. 8 ranked University of Saskatchewan Huskies defeated the University of Calgary Dinos. This win came 5-2 Friday night in Saskatoon's Rutherford Rink.

BOX SCORE

In the game, Huskie captain Chelsea Purcell had two goals, while forward Julie Paetsch had three assists. Elana Lovell scored both Dinos goals.

“This was a good way for us to come back onto the ice after an unexpected weekend off last week,” said Huskie head coach Steve Kook. “We will look to continue the momentum into Saturday's game.”

Purcell opened the scoring at 13:22 in the first period and Cindy Lukianchuk added the Huskies at 3:42 in the second period on the power play. The Huskies had the man advantage after Danielle Boyce was sent to the box for body checking. Calgary keeper Katie Urness let out a rebound that Lukianchuk was able to flip into the top of the net.

At 12:32 in the same frame Calgary was able to get on the board with Lovell's first of the night on the power play. But Breanne George made it a two goal game once again just 3:10 later on another Urness rebound.

Three more goals were scored in the third. Purcell added her second of the game at 9:34, followed by Lovell's second at 16:55. Huskie defenceman Madison Duffin gave her team their fifth goal with an empty netter at 19:31.

Frederick made 17 saves in the game for the Huskies, while Urness stopped 13 for the Dinos.

The win moves the Canada West second place Huskies to 5-1-1 on the season, while the Dinos drop to 1-6.

Saskatchewan and Calgary will battle again Saturday night at Rutherford Rink. Puck drop is 6 p.m. MT.
