UC Dinos Women's Hockey

Battle of Alberta back on the ice

| By:
CALGARY - In a battle of the first and last teams in Canada West, the University of Calgary Dinos women's hockey team will face off against the University of Alberta Pandas in a home-and-home series this weekend.

The third ranked Pandas currently rule Canada West with an undefeated 12-0 record while the Dinos have floundered since a good season opener, going 1-9 so far this campaign.

Last weekend the Dinos fell twice to the Regina Cougars when their offense failed to ignite in a 1-0 shutout on Friday before dropping a 5-2 decision on Saturday.

The Pandas' record speaks for itself as they have swept four games against Regina and two against Manitoba, UBC, Lethbridge and Saskatchewan.

Alberta's secret has been its offense which currently rules the Canada West scoring leaders chart occupying five out of the top ten spots. Sitting in first and second are Tarin Podloski and Leah Copeland, who have combined for 40 points so far this season.

The Dinos will be looking to their scorers to start producing if the Dinos want to take some points home before the halfway point in their season. Those strikers include Beccy Neihaus and Elana Lovell. Neihaus was one of the few goal scorers last weekend, while Lovell is the Dinos' most consistent offensive player through ten games.

The first game faces off in Edmonton on Friday night with a 7 p.m. start at Claire Drake Arena. After that tilt, the teams will travel down the road for a Saturday matinee at Father David Bauer Arena with a 3:00 p.m. face-off.
