T-Birds dominate in home opener

| By:

VANCOUVER – Victoria Pearson's four goal performance led the T-Birds' impressive display of offence in their home opener against Calgary, as they beat up on the Dinos 8-0 on Saturday at Wright Field.

Kathryn Macpherson opened the scoring in the 9th minute off a short-corner, and the 'Birds never looked back on their way to their third straight win to open the season.

Pearson padded the T-Birds lead early on with their second and third goals, and added two more in the second half to finish the day with four. Macpherson chipped in two, and Elise Milosevich and Robin Pendleton each added one.

“We scored some great goals, but I'd like to see some better cohesion from everyone,” said UBC coach Hash Kanjee. “We made some mistakes but overall we got the points so I'm happy with that.”

Despite holding the Dinos off the scoreboard, Kanjee was less than impressed with his side's defensive effort.

“Fortunately we had a good run and scored some goals, but our defence was shocking today and we really need to fix that,” said Kanjee. “I thought it was not very well played by them today.”

Katie Graham picked up the shutout in goal for the T-Birds.

UBC is now 3-0 to begin the season, having outscored opponents 12-1 so far. The Dinos are still winless at 0-3.

The 'Birds and Dinos will square off at Wright Field again tomorrow at 1 p.m. Next week the T-Birds continue their home-stand with a pair of games against Victoria, who are also undefeated through their first three games.
