Dinos face first test of season

| By:

CALGARY - The undefeated Dinos women's hockey team is set to face its first real challenge in the form of the Mount Royal College Cougars this weekend.

The Dinos are fresh off of a sweep of the NAIT Ooks and the Red Deer College Queens for a 4-0 start, while Mount Royal has gone 1-3 after a split series against NAIT and a double loss against SAIT.

Last season Mount Royal concluded the season with the best record in the league before being ejected by the eventual league winners, MacEwan College, in the semifinals.

So far this season the Dinos have had difficulty scoring on the Olympic Oval ice, with both of their regular time goals being scored by rookie Elana Lovell. On the road the Dinos have been more fortunate outscoring their opponents 8-2 and winning both games in regular time. In their last game the Dinos managed to take a 1-1 game into a shootout which was won by rookie forward Tiara Schoenroth, scoring the only goal in the shootout and keeping the Dinos undefeated.

The match begins on Friday where Mount Royal will host the game at Centennial Arena beginning at 8:45 p.m. The series concludes on Saturday night at the Olympic Oval with a 7:30 p.m. puck drop.
