Sophomore tailback Matt Walter was the bright spot on offence in Calgary’s 17-11 victory over Alberta Saturday, snapping a four-year losing skid to the Golden Bears.

The reigning Canada West rookie of the year, Walter racked up 153 yards on 22 carries in the contest, starting in place of the injured Anthony Woodson for a 7.0 yards-per-carry average. One of his carries was a 69-yard romp, the longest running play in Canada West this season. His 153-yard game is also the best single game rushing yardage by a Canada West player in 2008.

Walter, a second year science student out of Bishop O’Byrne High School in Calgary, sits second in the Canada West rushing standings with 43 carries for 259 yards, a 6.0 yards-per-carry average.
