LETHBRIDGE, Alta. – The University of Calgary Dinos fastball team swept a five-game weekend against Lethbridge, SAIT and Mount Royal, keeping their push toward the playoffs rolling with wins in every game on the schedule.
Dinos rally past Lethbridge 9-6
Calgary opened the weekend by rallying past the Lethbridge Pronghorns 9-6 on Saturday, overcoming an early 4-0 deficit.
Chloe Kinghorn's three-run home run to centre field in the third got the Dinos within striking distance, and Calgary seized the lead for good in the fourth when
Madison Belden's two-run homer, an
Angelina Hargreaves sacrifice fly and a
Mackenna Meyer RBI double made it 7-4.
Belden earned the win, going seven innings and allowing eight hits and six runs, with a season-high 12 strikeouts and three walks. The bottom of the Calgary order did much of the damage at the plate:
Hallie Miller,
Manyika Reyes and Belden combined for seven of the team's 13 hits, scoring four runs and driving in four. Kinghorn led the team with three RBIs, and Belden, hitting seventh, added three hits in four at-bats.
Pielak's big day lifts Dinos past Lethbridge 9-5
Calgary completed the sweep of Lethbridge in the nightcap, winning 9-5 behind a four-RBI day from
Mia Pielak, who homered to left field in the first and doubled home two more in the sixth. The Dinos jumped ahead in the first on a Kinghorn RBI single and Pielak's two-run shot, then added three more in the fourth on a Belden solo homer and a two-run Hargreaves single.
Pielak earned the win, allowing five hits and four runs, three earned, over four and one-third innings before
Alexis Luttmerding closed it out in relief. Kinghorn went 3-for-4 to lead Calgary's 12-hit attack, and Reyes added a two-hit game.
Dinos edge SAIT 5-4
Calgary held off SAIT 5-4, building an early lead on a Pielak RBI single, a SAIT error and a
Manyika Reyes sacrifice fly in the first, then adding insurance on a
Mackenna Meyer RBI single and an
Anna Forbes RBI groundout.
Kate Gross started for the Dinos before Forbes came on to earn the win, allowing two hits and one run over four innings with nine strikeouts. Pielak, Reyes, Meyer and
Olivia Goertz each drove in a run, with Meyer leading the team with three hits in four at-bats.
Belden's 11-strikeout outing powers Dinos past Mount Royal 9-1
Calgary opened Sunday with a 9-1 win over the Mount Royal Cougars behind a dominant outing from
Madison Belden, who struck out 11 over six innings while allowing three hits and one run and walking none. The Dinos jumped ahead in the first on RBI groundouts from
Chloe Kinghorn and Belden and a two-run error, then added another run in the second on a
Mackenna Meyer groundout.
Angelina Hargreaves led the Dinos with three RBIs, going 2-for-3 at shortstop, while
Mia Pielak went 3-for-4 to lead the team in hits and
Katie Berg added a two-hit game.
Kinghorn's four RBIs cap Dinos' sweep with 12-5 win over Mount Royal
Calgary closed out the weekend with a 12-5 win over Mount Royal, powered by a four-RBI day from
Chloe Kinghorn, who homered to left field in the second and doubled home a run in the first. The Dinos opened the game with five runs in the first inning on a Kinghorn double, a Hargreaves triple, an error and a two-run
Manyika Reyes home run, then tacked on three more in the second on a Meyer RBI single and a two-run Kinghorn homer.
Mia Pielak earned the win, allowing six hits and five runs, four earned, over four innings, with
Kate Gross closing out the final inning in scoreless relief.
Katie Berg, Kinghorn and Meyer each collected two hits, and Berg drew a team-high two walks while stealing three of the Dinos' four stolen bases on the day.
