SASKATOON – The University of Calgary Dinos fastball team went 2-3 in Saskatoon over the weekend, dropping three tough one-run and comeback losses to UBC Okanagan, Victoria and Saskatchewan before closing out with a win over Regina and a dominant 9-0 statement victory over first-place Victoria.
UBC Okanagan rallies late to edge Dinos 8-4
UBC Okanagan opened the weekend with an 8-4 win over Calgary on Saturday. The Heat got on the board in the first when Emmersen Bonville doubled home a run, but the Dinos answered in the bottom half when
Brooklyn Bianchini singled and
Chloe Kinghorn was hit by a pitch, each scoring a run. Calgary took the lead in the third on an
Alexis Luttmerding RBI single, but UBC Okanagan flipped the game in the seventh with six runs on four hits to pull away.
Mia Pielak took the loss, going six innings and allowing eight runs on 12 hits, with two strikeouts and three walks.
Angelina Hargreaves, Luttmerding, Bianchini,
Katie Berg, Kinghorn and
Olivia Goertz each had a hit for Calgary, while Miller, Bianchini and Kinghorn each drove in a run as the Dinos worked five walks.
Late Victoria rally hands Dinos 5-4 heartbreaker
Calgary led 4-0 early before Victoria rallied for a 5-4 win, capped by a two-run single from Madelaine Akiyama in the bottom of the fifth. Bianchini put the Dinos on the board with an RBI single in the first, and Calgary extended the lead with a three-run second inning highlighted by RBI doubles from
Katie Berg and
Vivi Eng.
Alexis Luttmerding took the loss, allowing four runs, one earned, on three hits over two innings.
Kate Gross started the game for Calgary, working four innings and allowing one run on six hits with five strikeouts. Berg and Kinghorn each had multi-hit games, with Berg going 2-for-4 with a team-high two RBIs, and the Dinos turned two double plays.
Dinos flip early deficit to beat Regina 7-5
Calgary beat Regina 7-5, overcoming an early 2-0 deficit built on a Lauren Nixon RBI single and a Merceydes Therrien sacrifice fly. The Dinos answered with five runs on four hits in the third to take a 5-2 lead, keyed by a two-run, two-strike single from Bianchini.
Anna Forbes earned the win, allowing six hits and five runs, three earned, over six innings with six strikeouts and four walks.
Angelina Hargreaves, Bianchini and
Olivia Goertz each drove in two runs, Goertz led the Dinos with three hits in four at-bats, and Berg added a two-hit game as Calgary worked four walks.
Big fifth inning lifts Saskatchewan past Dinos 9-3
Saskatchewan topped Calgary 9-3 on Sunday, breaking the game open with five runs in the fifth inning. The Huskies got on the board in the first on a Courtney Frohaug groundout, and Calgary briefly regained the lead in the fourth when
Chloe Kinghorn's RBI single and groundouts from
Olivia Goertz and
Parker Huot each drove in a run.

Katie Berg led the Dinos with two hits in three at-bats from the leadoff spot, Kinghorn, Goertz and Huot each drove in a run, and Calgary turned one double play.

Manyika Reyes drawing a team-high two walks. The Dinos stole three bases and played error-free defence in the win.
