SASKATCHEWAN – The University of Calgary Dinos women's soccer team stayed perfect on the season Sunday, blanking the University of Regina Cougars 5-0 at U of R Field.
Sofia DiGiacomo opened the scoring with her second goal in as many days, before the Dinos added four goals in the second half through Mykena Walker, Elania Tetteh-Wayoe and a brace from Ella Djuranic.
The win improves the Dinos to 6-0 in Canada West play, while the Cougars fall to 1-4.
DiGiacomo broke the deadlock on the stroke of halftime, rifling a shot into the net from outside the box for her fourth goal of the season.
After the break, Mykena Walker doubled the lead when Djuranic found her in space with a neat through ball. Djuranic got in on the action herself by making it 3-0 after Danica Pullishy won the ball back deep in Regina territory and squared it to her.
Djuranic got her brace when the Dinos pressed the Cougars defence deep in their half again, with Walker winning possession and playing her in. Tetteh-Wayoe capped the scoring late in the match, with Kaleigh Major playing in a corner into the box and Rowyn James squared it for Tetteh-Wayoe to finish.
The Dinos will return to action Saturday, Sept. 26 when they travel to face the Mount Royal University Cougars in a local derby at MRU Campus Field. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. The game can be seen live on Canada West TV powered by BioSteel.
Regina will host the Saskatchewan Huskies on Friday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m.
